Jude
is owned and operated by Judy and Hal Harper. During your
visit, you may notice that the cats have names from the
Beatle's era. Since my name is Judy, over the years I have
often heard, "Hey Jude" called to me. It just felt very
comfortable and JUDE was born. Now we are telling our age,
so let's move on.
We are empty nesters and have replaced our 4 children with
cats. Oh, we still have the kids, but now we are spoiling
the cats instead. We now have a hobby we enjoy together. We
love showing our cats and traveling to the shows in our
JUDEmobile.
We spend countless hours and countless dollars on the cats
and shows. Why not, it's only our children's inheritance.
We have a work hard, play hard ethic here at JUDE.
We would like to take a minute to tell you about the
breeding program we have and why we chose it. We consider
our program progressive because we regularly use the
Persian for type. Our main focus is on the Himalayan,
although we do produce color point carriers (CPC'S). We do
this by breeding Himalayans to Persians, thus resulting in
improved type. This is done to achieve our high standards
set for our Himalayan's. It takes a little longer, but we
find that good results are worth the wait.
The Himalayan, frequently called the Himmy for short, is
one of the most popular Persians. Yes, that is correct he
is a Persian. For many years the Persian was cross bred to
the Siamese to combine the point coloring of the Siamese
with the type of the Persian. We frequently still use the
Persian to improve the type in the himalayan. The Himalayan
is sometimes referred to as the pointed Persian. So, just
think of him as another color of the Persian. After all, he
is only one of the seven color divisions of the Persian.
The Himalayan is bred and shown in a rainbow of colors.
Some of our
personal favorites are the more rare chocolate and lilac
Himalayans. The more traditional colors are seal, blue,
flame and cream point. Out of these colors we can produce
the more artistic of the Himalayans such as the torties,
blue cream and the rare jewel, the lilac cream. Of course,
let's not forget the lynx point. If you like lions and
tigers and bears you will love lynx point kittens. They are
special and a little harder to breed. Lynx is like tabby.
It is the tabby of the Himalayan, so to speak. Lynx point
Himalayans come in all the same variety of colors including
the chocolate and lilac. Our Grand Champion, GC Jude Rocky
Racoon is a very nice example of the Seal Lynx point. He is
now breeding. I invite you into the cattery to see him. On
all Himalayans, color is restricted to the facial mask and
extremities with the body of various shades from white to
fawn. All must have deep vivid blue eyes. JUDE makes every
effort to meet these CFA standards, and of course health
and temperment will always be first and foremost here at
JUDE.
Please come into the cattery. We would love to show you
around.
